Been on a blogcation for the past few months due to some less than relaxing weeks on the work front. I have come to realize that the long days, stressful travel and short weekends have become the norm with those of us 'lucky' enough to be employed. The other half are 'lucky' enough to have lost their job and resigned to semi retirement which I am sure is stressful too. I am not sure what camp is worse, but I am going to say that being gainfully employed is better and it is my reality now and so I am trying to just go with it. One of my most important outlets for stress is exercise. As things became busier, I found myself having less motivation or time to do what I really need to do - go out and just sweat. So I joined a gym close to my house. It is so close that there are no excuses not to go, but not close enough where I feel guilty about driving - and that has made all of the difference for me. I think I am saving 4 hours of driving time to and from yoga, pool etc. by doing everything at this one location, by my house, and then there is the gas savings, and free coffee every morning 'til 11. What a great deal! So the exercise portion has been taken care of and for that I am much happier. However, now I miss the social aspect of running, swimming and yoga with friends. I hope that somehow I can slowly weave some socialization back into excercise during the work week. In the meantime, I am working tomorrow (Saturday) at a meeting downtown so I am heading to my ever convenient and comfortable gym for 6:15 a.m. spin class. Anyone want to meet me?

It sure is important to just get out and sweat... Even if you have to make a few new gym rat friends! I tell you though, if your "full service" gym has free towel service like mine... You might as well wrap your self in roll of sandpaper.

My new assignment has me wrapped around the axle too. I used to think that squeezing in a workout was a matter of discipline. Now the new assignement has me looking for time in all the wrong places. Last Tuesday, I worked until way too late trying to meet someone's deadline. I contemplated just driving to Java D and starting early. Instead, I went home and slept in. ZZZZZZ (all the way to 7:30AM which I cant remember when the last time I was out of bed that late!) So now my work outs for stress management have become a stress too. The ironic thing of having an active life style is that all my friends are at the pool, cove, 10MW, or on the bike. So if I lose that, not only do I lose my workout, I lose the chance to hang with some great people. I guess I have to just give up sleeping. :-)
